A Brief History

Andrew Dixon and Helen Stewart had worked together for many years at a firm of solicitors located in our current New Milton office, and in 1995 formed their own firm, originally known as Dixon Stewart Webb Solicitors and later as Dixon Stewart Solicitors.

In 2004 Ben Ryan joined the partnership, having previously been employed by the firm as a solicitor.

In April 2016 Dixon Stewart, which had been a traditional partnership until then, became a limited liability partnership – a more modern business structure which reflects the firm’s commitment to providing excellent legal services delivered in an up-to-date manner. It is registered at Companies’ House as Dixon Stewart LLP under company registration number OC404078, but still trades under the name of Dixon Stewart.

Andrew Dixon stepped down as a partner in April 2017, but continues to work with us as a practising consultant. At the same time Paul Moores and Jocelyn Jewiss, who had both been employed by the firm for several years, joined Helen and Ben as partners.

Originally our Highcliffe office was situated across the road from its current location, but in 2001 the then Dixon Stewart Webb merged with the Highcliffe branch of Truman-Moore Solicitors and moved into their premises at 372 Lymington Road. John Truman, a well-respected solicitor and once president of the Bournemouth and District Law Society, continued to practice from the office as a consultant until his retirement in 2006.

In 2011 Dixon Stewart merged with the Bransgore branch of Truman-Moore Solicitors. It had been run by Peter Durant, a popular and well-respected solicitor, since the early 1980s. Peter Durant continued practice from the Bransgore office as a consultant until his retirement in 2013.

Today each office has at least one resident partner. Ben practises from the New Milton office, Helen and Jocelyn from Highcliffe.
